Evan and I started writing to each other in mid May 2000. Evan is from South Africa and I, although originally from England, now live in Israel. At first our letters were very pen pally, Evan was interested in knowing about Israel, and about the kibbutz that I live on. Neither of us can now remember when things changed, but at some point we began getting more personal. We both worked by a computer, and were e-mailing 5-6 times a day, and then chating on-line when I got home from work. One day after chatting I decided to phone Evan as he sounded very down. We were both a little lost for words, but it was I think a turning point in our relationship.
Eventually Evan decided that he was coming to Israel to volunteer at my kibbutz for a while so that we could get to know each other. He took a two month leave from work, and arrived here towards the end of August. Right from the start it felt very natural to be together. At the end of September Evan sent his resignation to his old job, and decided he was staying here. He's gone from being a DTP Systems administrator for a large newspaper group to a farmer, he works with the cattle on the kibbutz.
To cut a long story short, we are very happy together and whilst in England visiting my parents got married on January 31st. If anyone would have said to either of us that we'd end up marrying some one that we meet on-line I think we'd have given the same response "you must be crazy". I guess that all that's left to say is thank you to the JewishMatch.com site, and good luck to anyone else who's using it. The secret to a good e-mail relationship is honesty, even if it is painful.
